Lyme Disease
According to Tick Talk Ireland, Lyme Disease is the fastest growing vector-borne infection (spreading at a rate of 30% every year). Yet in Ireland it continues to be grossly dismissed and misdiagnosed by the medical community. Lyme Disease is often called, ‘The Great Imitator’. It can cause the symptoms of up to 200 other illnesses. Many people have been misdiagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Anxiety, Colitis and many more. Early detection and treatment is key to recovery. If left undiagnosed Lyme Disease can affect every organ in the body.
Lately, there has been a host of celebrities revealing their battle with Lyme Disease in an effort to raise awareness. The American singer Kris Kristoffen for years was misdiagnosed with Alzheimer’s when it fact it was Lyme Disease. After appropriate treatment Kris is back out touring again. The former English rugby player Matt Dawson experience severe heart problems due to Lyme Disease. Kelly Osbourne had been previously told she had epilepsy when in fact Lyme Disease was the root case.
Inadequate testing in many countries has contributed to people spending years of ill-health. People have had to seek private testing from Armin Labs in Germany and Igenex in America before getting a diagnosis from a Lyme literate doctor. At this stage Lyme Disease has reached chronic stage. Unfortunately, at this late stage for many antibiotic treatment is not effective in eliminating this pathogen.

Lyme Disease is a multi-systemic infection caused by the bacteria Borrelia Burgdorferi. However, this bacteria is not the only pathogenic factor responsible for the vast array of symptoms experienced by people with Lyme Disease.
Co-infections such as Ehrichiosis, Bartonella, Babesia , Epstein Barr Virus and Rickettsia can often be present also. It’s therefore the combination of this pathogenic load that makes the treatment of Lyme Disease more complex than any other illnesses that are presented.
